Skyblock Overhaul FAQ
What SBO is, what it isn’t, and the things worth knowing before you install it. Where an honest answer is “it depends” or “we can’t promise that”, that is what you will find here.
Questions
What is Skyblock Overhaul (SBO)?
SBO is a client-side Minecraft mod for the Fabric loader, written in Kotlin, aimed squarely at Hypixel SkyBlock’s Diana / Mythological Ritual event. Its own summary calls it “a Mod for the Mythological Ritual event in Hypixel SkyBlock and custom partyfinder”.
In practice that means burrow guessing and detection, warp management, mob/loot/stat trackers, loot announcers, rare-mob alerts and a Diana party finder. See the full feature breakdown.
Is SBO allowed on Hypixel?
SBO is an information mod: it draws overlays and waypoints, parses chat, and computes hints from data the game already sends your client. Those are the same categories of feature other public SkyBlock mods provide.
That said, only Hypixel decides what is permitted on Hypixel. Their rules change, and enforcement is entirely their call. Read the current Hypixel rules and make your own decision. Neither this site nor any mod listing can grant you permission or guarantee your account’s safety.
Is it still in beta?
Yes, in every way that matters: SBO has not reached 1.0. It launched as public beta builds (versions literally named beta0.0.7 and 0.2.0-beta) and the newest release when this page was last reviewed was 0.5.2, published 24 August 2026.
Concretely: updates land often, features get renamed or restructured, and things that parse Hypixel chat break when Hypixel changes its wording. Treat it as actively developed software, not a finished product.
Which Minecraft versions does it support?
As listed on Modrinth: 1.21.5, 1.21.7, 1.21.8, 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2 and 26.2 — all on Fabric, client-side only. Forge and NeoForge are not supported, and neither is Bedrock Edition.
Individual builds target specific versions (file names look like 0.5.2-26.2), so download the build that matches the version you actually launch. The download page has the full table.
Does it work alongside SkyHanni or Skyblocker?
They are independent mods and plenty of people run them together, but there is real feature overlap on Diana — two mods drawing burrow waypoints or announcing the same drop is noisy and occasionally contradictory. The usual fix is to disable the duplicated feature in one of them.
Compatibility is not guaranteed, and it can break on any update. A concrete example: SBO 0.5.1 fixed a startup crash on Minecraft 26.2 that happened when another installed mod bundled a newer HM-API version — Skyblocker among them. If you hit a conflict, update both mods first, then report it to the developers concerned.
Does burrow guessing automate anything?
No. Spade Guess and Arrow Guess perform a calculation on information the game already sends you and render the result as a waypoint. Close Burrow Detection labels burrows the client can already see. Warping is bound to keybinds that are unbound by default — you assign them and you press them.
SBO does not swing the spade, walk your character, aim, fight, or click anything for you. It is a heads-up display and a calculator, not a bot.
How do I open the settings and move the overlays?
Type /sbo in game to open the settings screen, or reach it through Mod Menu if you have that installed (the README recommends it for exactly this reason).
To reposition the HUD elements, use /sboguis — also available as /sbomoveguis and /sbomove. Every tracker and overlay can be dragged and scaled independently. Your configuration is stored in config/sbo/.
Is it open source? What licence?
Yes. The Kotlin source lives at github.com/SkyblockOverhaul/SBO under the Apache License 2.0, which allows use, modification and redistribution under that licence’s terms. The repository README is also the most complete documentation of the mod’s options and commands.
The organisation also hosts the archived 1.8.9 ChatTriggers predecessors (SBO-CT and SBOPF-CT) and a socket module used for talking to the SBO API server.
What exactly do I need installed?
Minecraft: Java Edition with Fabric Loader, plus two hard dependencies listed on every SBO release: Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin. Missing the Kotlin one is the single most common reason SBO silently fails to load.
Mod Menu is recommended but optional. SBO is client-side only — installing it on a server does nothing. Step-by-step instructions are on the download page.
Is there a CurseForge version?
We could not verify one. The official channels are the SBO project on Modrinth and the GitHub Releases page of the SkyblockOverhaul organisation, which attaches the built Fabric JARs to each release.
If you find “Skyblock Overhaul” on an aggregator or an ad-heavy mod-download site — especially one quoting statistics or a feature list you can’t trace back to the developers — don’t use it. Check that any listing is published by the same author before trusting it.
That scepticism applies to us too, so we make it checkable: this site does mirror the 0.5.2 JARs on its download page, unmodified, with the SHA-512 hash Modrinth publishes printed next to each file so you can verify the bytes yourself. For anything newer than 0.5.2, go to Modrinth.
Can I keep my stats when I change Minecraft version?
Yes. SBO keeps trackers, past events and achievements as files under config/sbo/, and the project’s wiki documents which JSON files to copy when migrating — including migrating from the old 1.8.9 ChatTriggers module to the modern Fabric mod.
Back that folder up before big updates. It is the only part of your SBO setup that cannot be re-downloaded.
Something broke, or a feature stopped working. Where do I report it?
Update to the newest SBO build first — chat-parsing features are usually the first casualty of a Hypixel change and are usually fixed quickly. If it persists, take it to the developers’ Discord with your Minecraft version, SBO version and what you did.
This site is a third-party information page. We don’t take bug reports, we can’t fix the mod, and we have no involvement with the party finder backend.
Still stuck? The command reference lists everything you can type in game, and the troubleshooting section covers the usual install failures.
